But the less-than-traditional audience that filled the theater was merely a reflection of the show on stage. As the name suggests, "Girls Night" is definitely one for the ladies, although there were a handful of brave men in the crowd on opening night. ("Suckers!" the welcoming voice-over playfully taunted.) On the surface "Girls Night" appears to be a glorified bachelorette party onstage, but at its core, the show is a relatively rousing two-hour celebration of girl power.

There is only one word for this show - HOT! The cast are blessed with golden vocal cords belting out all those marvelous karaoke anthems which we all know and love: “I’m Every Woman,” “Lady Marmalade,” “Holding Out For a Hero” and “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” The cast interacts throughout the show with the audience and indeed, the crowds go wild! You would think that a show named Girls Night the Musical would be one that men would tend to shy away from, however, the guys that come to see GNTM enjoy it as much (if not more so) than the women. At the first performance on Tuesday evening, there were two men in the front row who were up on their feet with everyone else. The cast arrived in town on Monday and for the past two days I have packed their schedules with radio and TV interviews. This is a lovely cast who are a whole lot of fun! These ladies have so much fun on stage and this is infectious. This atmosphere extends to the lobby following the show where the cast come out to meet and greet their audience. Overheard in the lobby: a patron to an usher - “This show was awesome!” Another patron to one of the cast members: “O my gosh - I loved you guys!”The beauty of this show is that each of the five characters is relatable. We all know someone like Sharon, Liza, Kate, Carol and Anita. The songs are our songs - the songs we grew up with and played on our record players (yes, I mean LP’s - remember them?). They are the soundtrack to our lives. For the men that attend, this show is a glimpse into that to which they are not normally privy - the gossip, reminiscences and sisterhood of longtime female friends. See it with your friends! (By the way, Girls Night the Musical may be a hot show, but we do have a very comfortable, air-conditioned theatre!) Girls Night The Musical is on the Mainstage through August 1.
